IPS e.max Press – Lithium Disilicate Glass-Ceramic for Press Technology
IPS e.max Press is a clinically proven lithium disilicate (LS2) glass-ceramic material used in the press technique. It is available in five different translucency levels, along with an Impulse version. Notably, the polychromatic IPS e.max Press Multi ingots stand out for their natural color transition, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of restorations. The selection of the ingot depends on the specific case and processing technique—whether it involves staining, cut-back, or layering. The layering and characterization of restorations are performed using either IPS e.max Ceram layering ceramic or IPS Ivocolor stains, allowing for natural results regardless of the underlying tooth color.
Proven Cementation Options IPS e.max Press restorations can be cemented using various materials, depending on the indication. Self-adhesive resin or traditional cementation methods (e.g., Speedcem Plus) are suitable for crowns and bridges. For inlays, thin veneers, and minimally invasive crowns, adhesive techniques (e.g., Variolink Esthetic) are preferred to ensure optimal adhesion and aesthetic results.
IPS e.max Press Ingot Options
-
IPS e.max Press Multi These innovative ingots are available in Bleach and A-D shades. They differ from monolithic restorations by offering a natural color gradient from the dentin to the incisal edge, making them ideal for esthetic monolithic restorations. With these ingots, veneers, anterior and posterior crowns, and hybrid abutment crowns can be created efficiently and rapidly. Excellent results are achievable with just glazing, and further customization can be done using staining or the cut-back technique.
-
IPS e.max Press HT (High Translucency) Available in 16 A-D and 4 Bleach BL shades, HT ingots are ideal for smaller restorations (e.g., inlays) due to their high translucency. The natural "chameleon effect" helps the restorations blend seamlessly with the surrounding tooth structure. Customization is achieved through the staining technique, which enhances the final aesthetic result.
-
IPS e.max Press MT (Medium Translucency) MT ingots are offered in shades such as A1, A2, A3, B1, BL2, BL3, and BL4. Their medium translucency makes them suitable for cases requiring more brightness than HT but more translucency than LT. Restorations made from these ingots work excellently with both staining and cut-back techniques, allowing for versatile applications.
-
IPS e.max Press LT (Low Translucency) Available in 16 A-D and 4 Bleach BL shades, LT ingots are ideal for larger restorations (e.g., posterior crowns) due to their low translucency. The material exhibits brightness and chroma properties similar to natural dentin, preventing the graying effect often seen in large restorations. Aesthetic appearance can be maximized using the cut-back technique.
-
IPS e.max Press MO (Medium Opacity) MO ingots come in shades MO 0, MO 1, MO 2, MO 3, and MO 4. Their opacity makes them ideal for restorations on vital or slightly discolored teeth, providing an excellent foundation for restorations that will be finished using the layering technique. This material is perfect for cases where a strong underlying color must be masked.
-
IPS e.max Press HO (High Opacity) Available in shades HO 0, HO 1, and HO 2, HO ingots provide excellent masking properties for restorations on highly discolored teeth or titanium abutments. The anatomical contouring of the restorations is achieved using IPS e.max Ceram, ensuring both functional and aesthetic excellence.
-
IPS e.max Press Impulse Impulse ingots are offered in two brightness levels (Opal 1 and Opal 2). Restorations made from these ingots exhibit exceptional opalescence and are ideal for light-colored teeth where added brightness is desired. These ingots are particularly well-suited for achieving an opalescent, radiant finish that mimics the natural light-transmitting properties of enamel.
