What is RVG Sensor?
RVG stands for RadioVisioGraphy. This technology is used in dentistry as an alternative to X-ray radiography. RVG Sensors were developed with their durability and image quality in mind.
The hermetically sealed sensor housing makes this sensor waterproof, enabling versatile applications. Shock protection layer protects the sensor from bites and drops. The combination of High Sensitivity Scintillation, Fiber Optic and High resolution durable CMOS detector helps the sensor to obtain high quality images.
How the RVG Sensor Works
The sensor has two aspects - reactive and non-reactive parts. The reactive side should be used for image acquisition. The tissue is exposed to X-ray radiation and the refracted light is captured by the sensor. The image is instantly processed and converted into digital data using Analog-to-Digital converters. This digital data is sent to the computer where the doctor can view the scan instantly. The wiring is located on the inactive side of the sensor.
When the non-reactive side is X-rayed, no image appears on the screen. The sensor has a USB to transfer the image to the computer. This USB must be connected to the computer.
The X-ray generator used should operate between 60kV and 70kV. This sensor is not compatible with generators operating at voltages less than 60 kV. If images look too dark, decrease the exposure time, or if images look grainy, increase the exposure time. The type of X-ray generator used also affects image quality.
